Our History

///// Our history is based on the unity found within a family of independent companies dedicated to building a safer environment through life safety, industrial and specialty construction industries.

We proudly trace our roots back to 1926 when A.P.I. Inc. was established as a small insulation contracting and distribution division of the mechanical company Reuben L. Anderson-Cherne. Lee R. Anderson became president of the family business in 1964. Under his leadership Anderson expanded operations in the Midwest region, increasing revenues to approximately $30 million.

In 1980 Anderson launched a strategic initiative to diversify our company within the construction and construction-related industries. Our company expanded into key markets, establishing both a national and international presence. Thus, the company became APi Group, Inc. in 1997.

Today, APi Group is the holding company for more than 35 independently managed companies reaching approximately 9,000 vibrant employees. With more than 150 locations, APi’s $1.6 billion dollar success is based on one philosophy: Offer the finest customer-driven service by using common resources and shared experiences to build a safer environment.

Headquartered in St. Paul, MN, the APi National Service Group (NSG) specializes in fire protection services and provides “one point of contact” for customers with a regional or national portfolio of properties. APi NSG has over 70 branch office locations across the United States and 18 locations in Canada.

Our companies’ projects are collectively visited by millions of people each day. Leaders within the industrial, commercial, residential, health care and government industries continue to depend on the APi Group to provide consistent quality and dependable services.
